Theme: Mental Illness or Demonisation?
Speakers: Dr Leslie Lim
Synopsis: What are the similarities and differences between mental illness and demonisation? How do you differentiate demonic manifestations from symptoms of mental illness? How do demons afflict the mentally ill? What sort of illnesses are associated with demonic activity? The answer to these questions are important because correct diagnosis is necessary for the administration of the most appropriate intervention. The speaker is co-author of 'Mental Illness or Demonisation? Similarities and Differences.' Topics: -Signs and Symptoms of Demonisation -Psychiatric Diagnosis-A major Problem Among Christians -Depression and Suicide- Spiritual Aspects -Schizophrenia- Where are the Demons? -Obsessions and Complusions -Hysteria Bio-data of speaker: Dr Leslie Lim is Senior Consultant Psychiatrist , Singapore General Hospital and a Clinical Associate Professor at the National University of Singapore. He is also Adjunct Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School. Among other things, he was Head of Department of Psuchiatry, Singapore General Hospital and the past president of the Singapore Association for Mental Health. He has published widely in local and international journals, and edited books and contributed to book chapters. He is also the author of two other best selling books, "Depression the Misunderstood Illness', and 'Freedom from Fear: Overcoming Anxiety Disorders.' He obtained a Master of Arts in Ministry from a local seminary and is Adjunct Lecturer at the School of Counselling, TCA College. He is married with one daugther and worships at Riverlife Church.
