Engineering and Science Christian Fellowship (ESCF) of GCF is partnering the Creation Care Singapore (CCSG) network and other supporting Christian organisations to bring you the Inaugural Creation Care Singapore Conference 2015: On Earth as it is in Heaven.

CONFERENCE SYNOPSIS

The Christian faith tells of the salvation that God provides through Jesus Christ. The world in this 21st century faces new challenges from climate change and related humanitarian issues. Is it part of our Christian mission to respond to such environmental and humanitarian crises? Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” This prayer has profound implications on the reconciliation of the relationships between God, people of this world, and the rest of creation. It has practical consequences on how God’s people to live out His kingdom values now on earth.
This inaugural creation care conference seeks to bring Christians from various walks of life to explore the implications and consequences of The Lord’s Prayer within the overarching gospel message. Just as prayer is a conversation between the Divine and His image bearers, we hope that this conference will catalyse conversations through a line up of talks and open discussions for rallying Christians towards missional creation care.

Talk 1: On Earth as it is in Heaven
Talk Synopsis:
What is the theological basis for Creation Care? We will explore the intimate relationship between God, people and the rest of creation and what the gospel means for the whole creation. When we pray God’s kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in heaven, what does that mean for the present creation?
Speaker: Mr. Lawrence Ko, is the National Director of Singapore Centre for Global Missions. He has been a pastor, social entrepreneur, and missions director in Asia for the past 25 years.Engineering and Science Christian Fellowship (ESCF) of GCF is partnering the Creation Care Singapore (CCSG) network and other supporting Christian organisations to bring you the Inaugural Creation Care Singapore Conference 2015: On Earth as it is in Heaven.

Talk 2: What on Earth is happening now?

Talk Synopsis:
For many years, Singapore has been shielded from many global environmental issues and crisis affecting other countries around the world. However, these “privileges” are diminishing as the issues are now slowly coming to our shore. The annual haze caused by the deforestation in our neighbouring countries is just one of the many examples. To better understand the gravity and extent of the issues, we will learn from the speaker the current state of our planet and what are the environmental concerns Singaporeans will increasingly face.
Speaker: Prof. Freddy Boey, is Deputy President and Provost of Nanyang Technological University (NTU). A Professor of Materials Engineering, he has a track record of breakthrough commercial applications that have given the “made in Singapore” label pride of place on the global stage.

Talk 3: His Kingdom come on earth

Talk Synopsis:
The global environmental crisis calls for urgent action. How can the Church respond in biblical and creative ways? We will hear stories of creation care being lived out holistically by Christians and explore what the Christian distinctives are to caring for God’s creation.
Speaker: Rev. Dr. Tan Yak Hwee, is currently the Programme Secretary, Reflection and Research for Council for World Mission located in Singapore. She used to teach New Testament Studies at Taiwan Theological College and Seminary, Taipei.
